Tryon County Historical Marker

Tryon County, North Carolina was formed in 1769 from the western portion of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Tryon County existed until 1779 when it was divided into Lincoln and Rutherford Counties. The Tryon County court house was located in present day Gaston County, North Carolina in the community of Tryon on Highway 274 about half way between the towns of Cherryville and Bessemer City. A historical marker and monument mark the spot where the court house once stood.
