Ann McGlamery's Will

The following is the text of the will of Ann McGlamery of Cleveland County, North Carolina dated June 12th, 1848. This text was transcribed from a photocopy of the original will obtained from the North Carolina State Archives in Raleigh, North Carolina on August 11th, 2006. The original will is filed in the state archives under call number C.R.026.801.7:
In the name of God Amen I Ann McGlamery of the state of North Carolina and County of Cleveland
Being sick and weak of body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding considering the
certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof to the end that I may be the better prepared to leave
this world when it shall please my God to call me home have now determined to direct what disposition shall
be made of my property after my decease and after maturely considering the circumstances and condition of all
those among whom is my heirs at law or the objects of my gratitude or affection in my judgement my estate should
be distributed I do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament hereby revoking and making
null and void all former wills and testaments and writings in the nature of last wills and testaments by me hereto
fore made ..... and my will is first that after my decease my body shall be decently buried without
ostentation or unnecessary expences and that my funeral charges and just debts shall be paid by my executor
herin after named ...
Itom first I give and bequeath to my son George the sum of one dollar
Itom second I give and bequeath to my son David the sum of twelve dollars
Itom third I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Logan one bed bedsted and furniture also one walnut
chist ... Itom forth I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Ellers my saddle and half of the remainder
of my bedding and half of all my waring clothes and the other half to my daughter Jane afore said and if
they cannot divide them agreeably them selves I wish my executor to appoint two disinterested
pers to divide between them I also give my daughter Sarah one teecattle ....
Lastly I give and bequeath to my son Andrew all my stock of horses hogs and cattle that I may have
at my death as a token of my gratitude to him for the many valuable services he hath rendered to me
in taking care of me in my old age I also make and appoint my said son Andrew my sole executor of this my
last will and testament in testimoney where of I the said Ann McGlamery hath set my hand and
fixed my seal this twelfth day of June one thousand eight hundred and forty eight

Rutherford County, NC, Deed Book 12-14, p. 49-50: 14 Jan 1792, ... in consideration of the sum of 10 pounds for every hundred acres ... do give and grant unto JESSE MCGLAMERY a tract of land containing 185 acres lying and being in our county of Rutherford on Coxes Creek.
