Obituaries

The following obituary for Mrs Joe Costner was published in the Shelby (N.C.) Daily Star newspaper on 19 May 1938:

Mrs. Joe Costner Passes At Casar
Mrs. Joe Costner died a Casar last night at 10:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter Mrs. Curtis White after an illness of two months. Her husband preceded her to the grave about six years ago.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Curtis White, Mrs. Summie Canipe, Caleb, Kelly and Andrew Costner of Casar, together with a number of children and great grand-children.
Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 11 o'clock at Pisgah Baptist church where she has been a life-long member. The Rev. Mr. McDaniels will have charge of the service.

• The Cleveland County Index to Vital Statistics lists the death of a Malinda Costner of Township #10 with a date of May 18, 1938 (same date as her tombstone). The name of her parent is listed as David Buff. A reference is listed to Book 21, page 309. (Reminder: Try to obtain an actual copy of the death certificate to see if it provides more information.)
