Old Rappahannock County, VA Records

A Margaret Logan is listed in the following Old Rappahannock County, Virginia court records of 1686/1687. While no specific evidence has been found to indicate she was related to the four Logan brothers, there is also no evidence to rule out this possibility. Old Rappahannock County was not far from Spotsylvania County, Virginia where William Logan, the presumed father of the four Logan brothers, first appeared in the records in 1725.

Rappahannock County Court, 2d day of March 1686/7, p.15 (18):
Whereas it appeared to this Court that MARGARETT LOGAN, Servant to Lt. Colnll. WM. LOYD, did sometime since commit the sin of fornication & bring forth a bastard Child, the Court have therefore ordered (upon her Masters peticon) that shee serve her sd Master or his assignes for the sd offence according to Act.

Orange County Court, 24 March 1749/50:
WILLIAM LOGGINS, Plt agt ISAAC SMITH, Deft. In Debt. This day came the parties by their Attornies and the Defendant relinquishes his former Plea and saith he cannot gainsay the Plt.'s action nor but that he is indebted to the Plt. nine pounds, fifteen shillings, and seven pence and one thousand sixty eight pounds of tobacco. Therefore it is considered by the Court that Plt. recover against Deft. the money and tobacco and his costs by him about his suit in this behalf expended and the Deft. in mercy, &c., And the Plt. agrees to allow all such paiments as the Deft. can make appear to have paid the Plaintif in discharge of this Judgment.

Orange County Court, 30 November 1751:
WILLIAM LOGGINS, Plt. agt ISAAC SMITH, Deft. On a Writ of Scirefacias on a Judgment of this Court obtained by the Plt. against the Deft. the 24th day of march 1749 for nine pounds fifteen shillings and seven pence currt money and one thousand sixty eight pounds of tobacco for Debt, and one hundred twenty seven pounds of tobacco and fifteen shillings or one hundred fifty pounds of tobacco for his costs in this behalf expended. The Sheriff having again returned that the Deft. hath nothing in his bailiwick whereby he could cause him to know nor was he to be found within the same, Therefore on motion of Plt. by his Attorney it is ordered Judgment be entered for the Plt., that he have Execution against the Deft. according to the force form and effect of the recovery aforesaid and for his costs by him expending in suing forth and prosecuting this Writ.

ALEXANDER SPEIRS and Company, Plaintiffs, against JOSEPH LIGON, Defendant, in case. This day came the Plaintiffs by Paul Carrington, their attorney, and the Defendant in his proper person, and the Defendant says that he cannot deny the action of the Plaintiffs against him, nor but that he did assume upon himself in manner and form as the Plaintiffs above against him have alleged, nor also but that the Plaintiffs have sustained damages by reason of the breach of that assumption, besides their costs, to 6 £ 5 shillings and 3 pence. Therefore it is considered by the Court that the Plaintiffs recover against the Defendant their damages aforesaid by the Defendant in form aforesaid confessed, and their costs. Any by consent of the Plaintiffs, it is ordered that execution on this judgment be stayed until the Court date for this County in September next.

This day came the Plaintiff by PAUL CARRINGTON, his attorney, and the Defendant in his proper person, and the Defendant says that he cannot gainsay the action of the Plaintiff against him, nor but that he owes the Plaintiff 30 £, as the Plaintiff has alleged. Therefore it is considered by the Court that the Plaintiff recover against the Defendant his debt aforesaid, and this costs. But this judgment, except as to the costs, is to be discharged by the payment of 15 £, witht legal interest from March 1, 1766, and by consent of the Plaintiff, it is ordered that execution on this judgment be stayed till March next.
